Trained at the first FIFA Talent Academy in Africa
The FFRIM National Academy opened in Nouakchott on 1 October 2017 — the first football academy in Mauritania. Thirty-six players were taken into the founding intake from a nationwide detection programme, selected on footballing criteria alone. Mohamed Mahmoud is registered there as a central midfielder.
The programme is fully residential: daily training, strength and conditioning, medical and physiotherapy cover, schooling and academic support. It is funded through FIFA Forward and directed by Oumar N'Diaye, former captain of Mauritania.
In February 2025 the centre was designated FIFA Talent Academy Mauritania — the first of FIFA's talent academies anywhere on the African continent.
